Vourla House

A Contemporary Villa Concept Integrating Nature, Art and Sustainable Living in Urla, İzmir,Turkey
Located in Urla, one of İzmir’s prominent coastal settlements, this single storey residential project is conceived as a holistic living compound composed of a main building, a guest house, and a service structure on a 6,650 m² flat site. Designed for contemporary art collectors, the project integrates wide circulation spaces and generous volumes, creating a gallery like axis that establishes a strong visual connection between the interior, the garden, and the pool. Natural light and ventilation are distributed throughout the building via roof openings, inner courtyards, and a daylight accessible basement level. Climatic comfort is enhanced through wide eaves, movable pergolas, and passive environmental strategies adapted to the Aegean climate, while travertine natural stone used across façades, floors, and interior surfaces with varying finishes ensures material continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces.
GAD Foundation works to positively affect practice and theory in architecture and urbanism with a focus on education, society and their intersection with architecture and urbanism.
